Welcome to Machenje Fishing Lodge, your piece of paradise on the Zambezi.
Located on the banks of the Zambezi River in Zambia, upstream of the Victoria Falls, Machenje Fishing Lodge is the ideal place for that perfect getaway.
The heart of Machenje is our large open-plan thatched central lodge building, with bar and dining areas and adjoining plunge and relaxation pools. Five secluded riverside chalets, on raised stilted platforms and with traditional thatch-roofs, all offer private accommodation, each with river views.
Built from locally sourced materials and blending harmoniously within the natural surroundings, the Lodge was constructed with minimum environmental impact and to the highest standards of craftmanship, and is a private business and community partnership ecotourism initiative.
Machenje Fishing Lodge, with its picturesque location on the banks of the Zambezi River, is an ideal choice for those seeking either African adventure or tranquil getaway.
Machenje is nestled on the banks of the Upper Zambezi between the Mambova and Katamobora rapids, on a deep, wide and placid section of the river, perfect for those who enjoy nature - a leisurely wilderness retreat for fishing, birdwatching or just relaxing. Lounge around the lodge or undertake leisurely trips by boat, the choice is yours.
Machenje Fishing Lodge also makes an ideal base from which to explore the local and regional attractions. Located in close proximity to some of southern Africa’s most famous tourism attractions, including the natural wonder of the Victoria Falls, a short distance downstream, and the spectacular big game safari destination of Chobe, across the river in Botswana, both can be visited as part of organised day trips from the lodge. The region offers many activities for tourists.
Situated 100km upstream from the natural wonder of the Victoria Falls, in the Southern Province of Zambia, the Lodge is nestled within the heart of one of the largest international conservation projects in the world - the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area - and is surrounded by famous National Parks offering big game safaris, such as Kafue National Park in Zambia, Chobe National Park in Botswana and Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe.
However you don't have to go far to find wildlife, which abounds in the region surrounding the Lodge. Hippo and crocodile are common along the river, as are elephant and many other species of mammal, included otters, a wealth of birdlife, reptiles, amphibians, and, of course, fish!
